The potato and pumpkin pie without oven is a variation of the classic dish that is prepared only with potatoes. This version makes it sweeter thanks to the pumpkin and allows us to vary the dish.
The pumpkin pie is prepared with minced meat and mashed potatoes, achieving a very nice fusion of flavors. It is a dish that is usually finished in a baked dish, but we can easily prepare it without oven, assembling the portion in the dish directly, and if necessary reheat it in microwave.

How to make potato and pumpkin pie without the oven
Step by step recipe for pumpkin pie
- Peel the potato and pumpkin and boil them in a pot with boiling water and salt. Once the vegetables are cooked, strain them and mash them to form a puree. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
- Put the pot on the fire, add a little oil and now we go with an onion and half a sweet bell pepper cut into small squares.
- We add a little salt so that the vegetables sweat, over medium heat.
- I am also adding a little bit of green onion that I had frozen (this is totally optional).
- We are also going to add some minced meat, approximately 400 grams. We add a little more salt for the meat, meat seasoning, oregano, ground black pepper, and a handful of chopped olives. Stir all this together and let the meat cook well, let all the flavors integrate and now we have the base ready.
- You can also add chopped hard-boiled egg and if you are more adventurous you can add raisins.
- Serve several spoonfuls on a plate, make a nice and neat base. We add a little mozzarella cheese on top and now we are going to finish it with mixed pumpkin and potato puree.
- We arrange it well, so that it is well formed. We finish it with a microwave hit to heat everything well and melt the cheese.

Differences between baked and pumpkin pie without oven
The traditional way to prepare this type of pie is baked. It is usually prepared in a baking dish, with a layer of mashed potato (in this case it would be potato and pumpkin) underneath, at the base of the dish. Then a layer of the meat preparation is added and at the end it is covered with another layer of mashed potatoes.
It is very common to add soft cheese, such as quarttirolo cheese, between the layer of meat and the second layer of mashed potatoes, as well as adding quarttirolo or grated cheese on top.
Then it is heated for a few minutes in a high temperature oven, so that the whole preparation heats up, the cheese inside melts and the cheese on top is gratinized, giving it a golden and crunchy crust on top.
As we saw in the recipe, in the al plato version many of these things do not happen. Only two layers are made, one of meat and one of puree, and there is no gratin. You can add the quarttirolo cheese between the meat and the puree and heat it in the microwave for a few seconds.
